Google Android 3.0 OS Update
Android is a mobile operating system - based on the modified version of the Linux kernel, which was developed by Android Inc. (a company which is owned by Google Inc. now.) In the last quarter of 2010, Android OS dethroned Nokia's Symbian OS to become the world's best-selling smartphone platform. Ever since, this OS has become quite popular and that shows when you have a look at the number of Android-based mobile phones that have been released over the last few months. Its current version - Android 2.3 Gingerbread has made it to quite a few smartphones over the last few months. Moving on from the mobile phones, the developers at Google seem to have turned their attention towards tablet PCs now and the launch of Android 3.0 Honeycomb - a tablet specific OS, stresses on this very fact.
So what's new in Android 3.0 Honeycomb update? Honeycomb will be a tablet specific OS as of now, even though the smartphone version of the same is in the pipeline. With the Android tablet vs iPad battle all heating up, Google seems to be concentrating on a OS for tablets as of now. Other than the much talked about 3D capability, Google Android 3.0 features include a revamped user interface with larger icons, multicore processor support, multiple home screens, a redesigned widget gallery, hardware acceleration, browser enhancements, etc. It will also include a range of Google features such as Google Talk with video chat support, a new Gmail Application, Google eBooks application with flipping animations, etc. The 3D capability of this OS will help you make the most of apps like Google Maps (5.0 version).
Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) Release Date
With Motorola Xoom release date being less than two weeks away now, everybody is more than eager to know when Google will release Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) update. As of now Google has refrained from coming up with a specific date as such. Many believed that Google's Android Event held on 2nd February, 2011, was specifically announced to release this update, but Google provided all the information about it except for its release date. This has only increased the rumors and speculations about Honeycomb. (Not to forget, the fact that the rumors and speculations about iOS 4.3 release date are also rife has contributed to the rumors about Honeycomb release.) Previously there were rumors about Android 3.0 update being scheduled for release in March 2011. However, now that Xoom is ready for launch experts are of the opinion that this update will be either released within the next week or along with Xoom itself. Basically one has to understand that Google doesn't really have to market Android OS updates as aggressively as Apple markets iOS updates which are Apple product specific. When any company uses the Android OS for their smartphones or tablet computers, it automatically gets the publicity it requires. If this fact is taken into consideration, we can bank on the fact that Android Honeycomb will be made available for users from 24th February 2011, along with Motorola Xoom.
That was a short writeup on Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb Operating System release date - with passing reference to its features. Other than Motorola Xoom, quite a few new Android 3.0 tablet PCs - like Asus Eee Pad Slider and Acer Iconia Tab A500, are scheduled for release over the period of next few months. With Google yet to make any official announcement on Android 3.0 Honeycomb release date, we are all ears for it and once we get to hear about the same we will pass over the information to you with no further delay. You just need to watch out for this space for further developments.
