POLLUTION OF SEWAGE WATER

Effects of Sewage Water Pollution
Effects of water pollution are seen in several ways. As 75% of the Earth is covered with water, water pollution, especially caused by sewage water, affects its inhabitants badly. Polluted water is the biggest source of diseases. Contaminated water becomes the breeding ground of pathogens that cause diseases such as cholera, typhoid, infections, malaria, diarrhea and other such contagious diseases. If polluted water gets mixed with tap water (which is treated by city water plants) it can cause irreparable damage to the body organs. It can injure kidneys, heart, skin, eyes and hair to a large extent. The situation can get worse, if the water has chemical contents in it. This can cause cancers, infertile wombs and birth defects. Toxic content in the water bodies harms the aquatic flora and fauna, disturbing the underwater food chain. This can severely affect the fish supply, thus creating a pressure on the crops and other meat supplies too. Dumping animal manure, vegetable peelings, waste food and releasing urea in the water are the main reasons for algae growth in water. Larger the amount of sewage deposits in fresh water bodies, bigger are the algae covers. They reduce the levels of oxygen in water harming the living organism in the water.

Treating Sewage Water Pollution
Several problems related to sewage water pollution can be easily avoided by treating the sewage before it is let out into the larger water bodies. This removes the contaminants at superficial levels at the least. It is important that effluent is pretreated before the actual sewage is treated. This separates sand, gravel and oils from contaminate water. Filtration is the process used for this process. To avert the dangers of biodegradable wastes in sewage water, separating your household waste into wet and dry is the easiest thing to do. Putting everything together can lead to serious decomposition issues. Disposing the household waste properly is what we can do at household level to prevent water pollution. The other important part of treating sewage water pollution is chemical treatment. This disinfects the water and makes the water relatively clean to be let out in ponds, lakes and rivers.
