Why Samsung Galaxy Tab is Better than iPad?
A Samsung Galaxy Tab vs Apple iPad specs comparison will show that there is very little to distinguish between these two devices (Note that we are talking about the original 7" Galaxy Tab, and not the recently released 10.1" model or the upcoming 8.9" model). The major points of difference between the two was the screen size and the availability of a camera. With that in mind, here are some reasons why the Samsung Galaxy Tab could be considered a better tablet than the Apple iPad.
The Galaxy Tab is much easier to hold in one hand then the iPad due to its smaller size, and this is very useful when one is reading Ebooks or watching movies. Holding a bigger iPad will lead to one's hands getting tired faster, and in this area the Tab is far more friendly. This advantage is also aided by the fact that the Tab weighs 13.4 ounces, a little more than half the weight of the iPad.
The Galaxy Tab supports flash based websites, and this is great news since most websites still use a lot of flash based content. Apple and Adobe have a long standing feud, so flash based websites will never work on the iPad in the foreseeable future.
Even though taking pictures with a relatively giant iPad is not feasible, the presence of a camera would have been nice. The Galaxy Tab has a 3 MP camera at the back, and even a 1.3 MP camera at the front, and this is a major reason why Galaxy Tab is better than iPad. This is a massive advantage (Admittedly one which the iPad 2 has solved).
With the iPad you are stuck with the onboard memory that you get (16GB, 32GB or 64GB). The Galaxy Tab has 16GB or 32GB of onboard memory and you can insert a microSD card (maximum of 32GB) and increase storage space. One may argue that this is still lesser than the 64GB model (or on par), but then you must remember that the 64GB iPad model is $200 more expensive than the 16GB model.
The iPad can only function on the 3G network of AT&T, but the Tab has no such limitations. Any service providers 3G network can be accessed by the Tab, as long as one has a valid data plan.
The multitasking that you can carry out on the Android platform, and hence the Galaxy Tab, is true multitasking. On the other hand, the iPad lets you multitask only with native apps. Hence, one cannot carry out multitasking with third party apps like Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, etc.
One of the biggest advantages of the Galaxy Tab is the ability to make calls on the device (both voice calls and video calls). This is a feature that is blatantly missing from the iPad because it will kill the iPhones market, but Samsung can afford to offer this. Talking on the Tab with it held next to your face is impossible though, so you will have to use a Bluetooth headset or a hands free kit.
